Life’s Question

The questions that we’re asking

Are the answers to our lives.

Will this get me noticed?

Will this earn me the spotlight?

Will I prove to all the ones

Who never thought I’d win

That I’m greater than they are?

I’ve outdone all of them.

The answer to my questions

Is a proud, resounding “yes”—

I left them choking on my dust

And proved that I’m the best.

But why were those my questions

When I know the best is Christ?

Why did I ask vain questions

That would guarantee vain life?

Here’s a question I could ask

That isn’t about me:

Does my every waking hour

Bring honor to the King?
